  • Who We Are

    Issabella Jane Patel

    Chief Marketing Officer

I see people on the street who are starving and extremely skinny and I think it's not right. I can help them and I can especially help any kids out there who are hungry? I'm in year 7 and I'm the oldest in the family (by two minutes!) I'm astonishingly grateful that I'm not starving and not on the streets like some people. I also love being silly and laughing loudly! My new passion is Kickboxing!

    Amelia Jane Patel

    Chief Operations Officer

If I don't eat, I don't feel the best. I don't think anyone should have to be hungry. If I can help people, maybe they won't feel bad any more. I'm in year 5 and my passion is diving. I also adore my dog Duncan.

    Kaeden James Patel

    Chief Events Officer

I am trying my best to eat healthy. I want others to be able to eat good food too. I'm the little brother of my #3 older sisters! My sisters try to keep up with me but I'm too fast! I'm in year 3 and I love to play Rugby

    Mackenzie Jane Patel

    Chief Executive Officer

Give A Free Lunch is something I really want to do. I don't understand why some people don't get to eat. It's not fair that lots of people in this world don't get to eat. sometimes I get hungry and I don't want other people to feel like that.

I love swimming and I'm in year 7.

    Parker Jessop Voynovich

    Captain Of Canada

Parker is one of the newest members of Give A Free Lunch. Parker is an avid dancer (ballet, modern & jazz), loves reading and writing stories, enjoys crafts, volleyball, and hanging with her rescue pup Ollie. Parker is 10 years old and is in 5th grade.

    Marlene Sophie Harder

    Captain Of Germany

Marlene like's to help people who are homeless and don’t have enough to eat. I think it is not okay that so many people are poor and have no place to stay, while others have a lot of money and can eat whenever and whatever they want. I know how it feels to be hungry. But there is always something to eat for me. For others, this is not the case. So I help to raise money for a warm lunch for them! I am in 7th grade and I love to play handball and to sing.

    100 million

One out of six children -- roughly 100 million -- in developing countries is underweight.

    3.1 million

children each year each year die from poor nutrition and causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five children each year.

    $3.2 billion

needed per year to reach all 66 million hungry school-age children.

    17 million

every year children are born malnourished due to a mother’s lack of nutrition before and during pregnancy. When a mother is undernourished during pregnancy, the baby is often born undernourished, too.

  • Our Story

Four siblings on a life long mission to make a difference with your help

We are the Patel family! Our sisters Issabella and Mackenzie were born three months premature, so we have all been very aware about the importance of hospital care for children, especially care for babies. That’s why In 2016, we decided to raise money for the BC Children's Hospital. We spent the day making chocolate brownies and lemonade on Kitsilano Beach – and we sold out in 20 minutes. We couldn’t believe it!

After, we continued to learn and research childhood nutrition and how this impacts children’s potential. We were stunned to learn some horrible facts about child hunger, such as: how 100-million children in developing countries are underweight, 3.1-million children die each year from malnutrition, and 17-million children are born undernourished because of their mother’s poor nutrition. We decided then and there to do something to help change the lives of hungry kids around the world. But what could we do? We were just 4 kids from Canada! So we put our heads together and talked about what we could do. Then we realised we could do anything we wanted! So we invested our Christmas gift from our Nana and Granddad and created Give a Free Lunch, a campaign to ultimately serve 1-billion nutritious meals for kids who cannot get one.

We realized that with small, fun activities and working together we could help others, even with just a lemonade stand! Now each month we plan one event for our community, for example - selling lemonade in the warmer months and hot chocolate in the cooler months. All money raised is donated to organizations that are able to make a big impact. Since January 2017 we’ve raised enough money to feed almost 4000 kids!

We have raised $750 for Samridhdhi Trust, a non-profit organization that supports equal opportunity for education in India; $215 for a lunch program at a local school in Vancouver by partnering with athletic wear store, ivivva, for a dance party; $350 with our lemonade stand in Kitsilano in August 2017; and over $1,500 from hot chocolate sales which we divided to Kids Against Hunger, KidSafe, and our local food bank.

Each of us have our own special ways of reaching our goals: Issabella manages our website, blog, and social media as our Chief Marketing Officer; Mackenzie sets the dates and times for meetings with companies, and holds everyone accountable for their commitments as our Chief Executive Officer; Amelia organizes our events and manages donated funds as our Chief Operating Officer; and Kaeden promotes our events as Director of Events.
